Description

Take advantage of the best of both worlds! Enroll your students in a multi-dimensional art experience in your classroom and at the San Jose Museum of Art. With a focus on Museum exhibitions, this progressive, multi-part program is designed to give students an in-depth, hands-and-brains-on art experience. During the six, eight or ten-week long session, a Studio Arts Educator works in the classroom once a week for 60-90 minutes. Classes place an emphasis on artistic exploration and creative problem-solving in a variety of media such as drawing, painting, and sculpture. The program can be developed to integrate core curriculum with subjects such as art and science. Students visit the Museum to build on the classroom experience with the guidance of a Gallery Teacher. Active discussions about original works of art and strategies to develop the students’ visual cognition are the focus of the Museum visit. Back in the classroom, students continue to learn art skills and create their own work inspired by the art and artists they have encountered.

Grades K-12 Program structure: six, eight, or ten-week residency: $720, $960, and $1,200 respectively; each class experiences one session per week; the visit to the Museum is included in the fee. Connection to core curriculum: visual arts and other core curriculum subjects depending on subject matter or theme of Museum exhibitions.

To schedule a Multi-Part Art program, please contact the Education Department at (408) 291-5393.

The Sobrato Family Foundation and Symantec Corporation are major sponsors of the Museum’s educational and public programming.
